A company that cannot communicate effectively will fail to succeed. It is through communication that ideas are shared, goals are set, and sales are made. But this is all easier said than done. With how fast technology is developing currently, especially in the communications field, it’s hard to believe that we can still have discrepancies when it comes to communication. And of course as
you can tell, we here at Genesis BCS thrive on over-communicating. Without efficient and effective communication done internally in our business, we would not be as successful as we are today. And our success in communication is at the very center of our company’s mission, and what we like to share with future partners and customers. This is exactly why internal communication is so vital to how our business communicates in every other way. It is the foundation of how we communicate with the rest of the world. When there is sound communication, there is no room for failure. Below, we have listed the top 3 ways in which communication can be improved within a business.
1. Avoid Misinterpretations
Trust, comradery, and teamwork are all achieved through excellent leadership and communication. And it takes much effort to have a solid flow of communication. But if there is ever a situation where something is misunderstood between the parties involved, then that trust and teamwork that was so hard to build in the first place will start to diminish. When this occurs, then business is at jeopardy. This is why we at Genesis BCS push the idea of redundancy and over-communication. We ensure that when we have an idea that we want to share, or news that we would like the rest of our team to know about, then we make sure everyone knows and is on the same track so that we can avoid any future miscommunication.
2. Communicate Through Various Platforms
Don’t just communicate with your fellow employees through emails or phone calls. Just because you draft an email and send it out doesn’t mean that anyone has read them or understood the implications. You need to engage the organization by making your thoughts visible. Maybe incorporate a power point slide with your ideas, share your notes from a recent event you attended or article you read, or even share a video of new and interesting things that are happening in your company’s field. Get information out there that employees will benefit from, and then encourage conversation about it. And most importantly, speak to everyone in your company about new ideas – reach out to the sales team, product management, engineering, and customer support teams.
3. Power in Numbers
Facilitate a marketing-sales meeting, whether it’s once a week or twice a month. Organize meetings on the regular so that people get more comfortable with speaking with one another. Sometimes when we go to work, all we do is head right to our desks and attack our lists of daily tasks. We tend to stay in our bubble and only focus on what we can accomplish individually. When there are more meetings scheduled, then the flow of conversation can be spread and plans can be made so that tasks can be accomplished by more people working together as a team rather than by just one person. Of course, there is the notion that employees dread attending the early morning meetings, but this is most likely the case when there is no room for conversation. Instead it is more of a stifling classroom environment where only one person speaks while everyone else is forced to listen. Try scheduling meetings that promote open communication and sharing of ideas. That way, “group think” can become a regular habit. Meetings with encouraged and open communication are the perfect venue for sharing plans, gathering feedback, and solidifying a shared understanding of sales’ expectations and marketing’s goals and objectives.
