Ruckus Wireless posted a blog recently exploring a pretty hot topic in the networking world right now: Hotspot 2.0.
Boiled down, Hotspot 2.0 allows wireless access points and networks to mimic the way cell phone networks work when roaming. Ever been out in the country…your cell provider might not provide coverage for that area, but your phone still places calls. That’s because you’re using another network seamlessly.
Similarly, Hotspot 2.0 dozens, thousands, even millions of business owners to create vast networks of wireless coverage that all recognize each other’s patrons. What that means is that not far in the future, when you leave the coffee shop and go across the street to a restaurant, you won’t have to go through the process of reconnecting (logging in, agreeing to terms, etc…). The process will be seamless and effectively invisible to the patron.
That’s big news for an industry in which customers expect a hiccup-free experience.
