OUR WI-FI IS TO SLOW!! Something you might here from many of your coworkers. Everyone seems to complain about their wireless network at least once every couple of months. So while you can’t fix everything or make sure it’s working spot on every minute of the day. You can at least put your network in a place to give its best performance.
Below we give you 6 Wi-Fi hacks to improve your wireless networks performance.
Centralize Your Router Location
Surprising enough where your router is located can have a substantial impact on your Wi-Fi’s performance. If possible the best place for your router is for it to be centralized to the area you are trying to cover. Putting it away in a corner or in a closet in the back of your office can decrease the performance of your wireless network.
Move Obstructions
This one links to the central location, but if possible make sure your router is away from obstructions. Don’t have your router sitting on the floor, sitting in a cabinet or surrounded by walls and other objects. These obstructions will decrease your wireless connection.
Experiment With Channels
There is more than one channel when it comes to your wireless router. So just like a radio signal, one is going to be better for you than the other. Experiment with this and see what the best channel is for your network.
Use the Same Vendor
Like with most things, when you use equipment created by the same company you will get better performance. This is because these products were meant to work together. So when you are setting up your network buy hardware from the same manufacturer. Whether it is from Extreme Networks, Ruckus Wireless or Cisco, make sure it is all the same.
Make Sure Your Secure
The more people that use your router the slower it will go. This is a pretty basic concept that most people know. You don’t want unwanted people piggy backing off your Wi-Fi, so make sure you have it secure. Look into setting up a WEP, WPA or WPA2 level encryption password to protect your Wi-Fi.
Always Update
Updates are made for a reason. They are to ensure you are getting the best performance out of your technology. So just like you would update your IPhone, update your Wi-Fi router and your Wi-Fi card in your computer. This will ensure that you are getting the best performance out of your wireless network.
