A factor many organization’s don’t think about when it comes to the productivity of their employees is their health. When you look around people talk about these new technologies, products, etc. as a way to increase your employees performance and efficiency. Yes these can help, but if your employees aren’t healthy these tools become useless.
Also when you look at it when employees are sick, they aren’t at work. So by them missing work your other employees are having to pick up the slack or you are falling behind. A healthy employee is a effective and productive employee.
So how do we tie health to LED Lighting? LED Lighting is a booming technology that is full of countless possibilities. With this aspect we are finding that not only is LED Lighting bringing benefits such as a higher quality of light, lower energy costs, and less maintenance, but they are bringing on health benefits to the people exposed to them as well.
One of the first aspects we can cover in regards to health and LED Lighting is the “flicker”. LED’s are replacing fluorescent tubes that are known to begin flickering with age. This flickering creates issues with people that suffer from migraines and individuals that are epileptic. LED lights do not flicker which helps alleviate these problems.
Next, LEDs provide a steady natural full-spectrum of light. This is what we call “simulated sunlight”. People that are exposed to this form of light in schools, offices, etc. have shown lower stress levels, less anxiety, and improved behavior and attitudes.
Continuing on this “simulated sunlight”, when we don’t receive this form of sunlight our “internal body clock” begins malfunctioning. LED lighting has the ability to change in regards to color spectrum, which in result can create this natural sunlight effect. During the day our bodies need a blue light spectrum, which stimulates alertness and activity. While later in the day we need warmer colors that help in producing melatonin to bring about sleep. LEDs have this ability to fluctuate in color spectrum through lighting controls to help our bodies function in the manner it is naturally suppose to.
This is just the beginning of what we have seen LED lighting able to do in regards to our health. Researchers have seen similar health benefits in regards to plants. Plants thrive with sunlight and, like plants so do people. Like we said earlier healthy employees are productive employees, create a healthy work environment and you will create a productive one.
