LED lighting is breaking through the roof of the lighting industry. Fluorescent lighting has been on the fall with no hopes of coming back up, this could more than likely be due to the recognition of the many benefits of LED lighting. This includes everything from streetlights, all the way to lighting of the Raleigh convention center.
According to newsobserver.com, Raleigh spent $12 million to replace up to 30,000 street lights, which is expected to save Raleigh up to $400,000 a year after the project is finished. Raleigh has also run into the problem of the LED lights being too “high tech” for the historic parts of the city. While the original lights are not a part of the history to the city, the committee decided that the LED lights are not only too bright, but the rectangular shape of them does not fit with the historic tone of that part of the city. Even though finishing the project would save Raleigh $9,600 a year in the historic district, the LED lights are just too “high tech.”
People have become very accustomed to the dim yellow gloom of the street lights. Widespread technological advancement can’t be embraced by all people, or cities, but change is bound to happen all over the world. Public LED lighting is becoming more of a standard as the argument of energy-saving arises. The combination of all of the benefits of LED lighting is almost too overwhelming to be ignored.
