When technological problems arise in a small business, we just tolerate them. We can often procrastinate and leave them be, just as long as you’re able to work. All simply because we don’t want to go through the pain of fixing them or having a professional do so. Not all problems require the help of a professional though. Some of them don’t even take that long to fix. Just following some simple steps could save you the hassle of getting the help to fix it or even tolerating it before it becomes a true problem.

Problem #1: Phone System You can only have so much control over what you can do for certain phone systems. But first and foremost, always make sure you are up to date. If there are any updates waiting to be installed go ahead and update them. You’d be surprised how often simply updating your system is the answer to fixing many technological problems. The same goes for restarting your phone system. Sometimes simply restarting will clean out whatever problem was occurring at the time.

Problem #2: Slow internet speeds. First check to see if your device is getting a good connection by visiting a site similar to SpeedTest.net. This will tell you how slow or fast your internet is running. Similar to number one, always begin by updating and restarting. If those don’t fix the problem, check what programs are running in the background. You never know what programs will get attached to your system through the back-end. You can do this in a variety of ways but running a system scan with virus detection software is always the best course of action.

Problem #3: The Printer. Can’t help but think of Office Space with this one. But instead of beating your printer with a bat. Try these out first. Again check for any updates and restart the printer. Next check to make sure that your device is properly connected to the printer and that the printer is receiving the commands. Many times the issue lies with the printer not receiving the commands or is interpreting them incorrectly.

There are many problems in the office that can be fixed with simple answers. But just as there are simple fixes, there are always bigger problems that will require help from IT or other professionals who have the expertise to work around more complex problems. If the problem can be fixed simply and quickly, it is always to be done so that way. This will allow your business to resume work with as little interruption as possible.

But if your technology is still not working it might just be time to upgrade! Let us know if this is the case and let’s talk about how Genesis BCS can help.
