Everything revolves around technology now a day’s no matter what industry you are in. If you’re not utilizing it your falling behind and will have a very hard time catching up. Houston right now has a booming economy and new businesses are popping up and companies are opening offices.

While these are all great things, they do bring one challenge. Who is going to maintain and operate all of this technology? Well, that is exactly what the city of Houston is experiencing now. A recent study was released that showed the supply and demand for IT jobs amongst states and major cities all over the country. Houston reported having a demand for 16,000 IT jobs last year, which only represented around 20%  of its total IT workforce in the city.  This situation is the definition of an economic shortage.

This predicament has created an uneasy feeling with CEO’s, due to the availability of qualified candidates. Another survey showed that 63% of CEOs said IT professionals with the right skill set was a major concern. Candidates are needing to show experience in C++, j2EE, Java, .NET and Cloud Computing. This is making the skill set for these employees very distinct and difficult.

Luckily, community organizations have already started preparing and facing this demand challenge. These organizations have launched programs in schools and private ventures to teach and build a stronger local base of IT professionals here in Houston.
