The Houston Astros joined the vast amount of professional sports teams converting their facilities to LED lighting. This season the Houston Astros will take the field under a new Musco’s SportCluster Green LED system. The new system will replace the original metal halide lighting system and provide both energy efficiency and an enhanced spectator experience.
The new lighting system is part of a mass upgrade to Minute Maid Field. “We are continuously looking for ways to improve the stadium experience for both our fans and our players,” said Astros President of Business Operations Reid Ryan.
The new Musco LED lighting system will provide a tremendous amount of benefits which include:
- Cut energy consumption by 52 percent.
- Reduce glare with specially designed optics allowing players to see the complete trajectory of the ball.
- Create a stage-like atmosphere for fans.
- Eliminate the amount of maintenance with Musco’s long-term parts and labor warranty.
Minute Maid Park will become the second MLB field to install Musco’s LED solution. It also joins a list of other major league sport facilities that have converted which include the Houston Texans’ NRG Stadium, the San Antonio Spurs’ AT&T Center, and Arsenal Football Club’s Emirates Stadium.
