Houston and NRG Stadium, the home of the Houston Texan’s, makes history by becoming one of the first professional football stadiums in the US to utilize LED lighting to illuminate their field. The new installation is part of NRG’s sustainability master plan and will help reduce energy consumption by 60% compared to the former lighting system.
NRG stadium teamed up with Musco lighting to implement this state-of-the-art lighting solution. The new LED Lighting System utilizes 65,000 light emitting diodes and produces 337 kW. The system also utilizes dimming and instant on/off features to further contribute to the systems energy efficient capabilities.
This lighting system is only one part of the NRG sustainability master plan. The stadium has also installed a eVgo electric car parking lot charging station and is in the process of installing over 700 solar panels. This will make NRG stadium the first professional football stadium in Texas to use the sun to provide it with power. Other stadiums that have introduced smart energy solutions include, FedEx Field, Lincoln Financial Field, Metlife, Patriot Place and Levi’s Stadium.
